Connie Gibilaro

Children's Book Author

Connie Gibilaro Malone is a New York attorney and children’s book author. In 2012, she received her J.D. from New York Law School, where she became fascinated with copyright and trademark law. During law school, Connie was a writer for the Fashion Law website, Case Clothesed, where she regularly analyzed current legal topics in the fashion industry. This aspect of law school gave her an outlet to perform her two passions: writing and advocacy. At the start of her legal career, Connie practiced commercial litigation and intellectual property, and her clients consisted of writers, musicians, designers, and business owners. With every copyright application that she submitted on behalf of one of her clients, Connie hoped that one day she would submit a manuscript to her own book. It had been her dream since she was twelve years old while growing up in a vibrant neighborhood in Brooklyn, New York.

After the birth of her first daughter, Connie became inspired to write a children’s picture book. While pushing her daughter in the stroller one day, Connie noticed a butterfly mural, which her daughter eventually named “Delilah.” On a cold, rainy day in December 2022, Connie wrote a story about a butterfly mural that became alive and flew around the world, only to return to Brooklyn. After several drafts and rewrites, Connie narrowed the book’s setting to Brooklyn alone – hoping to capture the beauty, diversity, and fun of her hometown. Images of the Verrazzano Bridge, Ragamuffin Parade, Irish Step Dancers, and Italian pastries showcase beloved details from Connie’s childhood.

Connie lives in Brooklyn with her husband, Sean, and their two daughters. When she’s not in the courtroom, Connie spends many of her days exploring everything Brooklyn has to offer. You can find Connie on Instagram @conniegibilaro.

I am an indie author who just wrote my first children's picture book. I can still hear my mother's voice reading "Is Your Mama a Llama?" during bedtime and hope that my book fosters the same cozy moments with you and your child.
